GRIEVANCE COMMITTEE

(For Students, Staff & Parents)

Academic Year 2019-20

            The Grievance Committee was created as per the instruction of CBSE for accepting, reviewing and resolving the grievances of students, staff and parents up to a satisfaction level so as to create a healthy relationship among the students, staff, parents and managements.

            The grievances are handled accordingly by the committee during meeting and are acted upon at the earliest.

            The grievance committee met three times this academic year.

            The first meeting of the year was held in the month of June 2019. The committee met three times in this academic year.

            Sr. Linda Therese D.M, the Principal addressed the gathering and delivered a description about the committee and its purpose.

            Mr. Shijo Stephen, Staff secretary, informed the group that some parents requested that lunch time should be extended especially for lower classes. Sr. Lisy Chakola, Vice Principal said that it should be made compulsory for parents to meet the teachers of their wards every now and then to know about their wards and to express and issues that required immediate attention.

            The Principal asked the committee members to convey the issue to the class teachers as soon as possible and to inquire whether the students could or could not finish their lunch at the stipulated time, from 12.30 pm to 1.00 pm. The observations should be reported to the principal.

Mr. Bibin Mathew raised the question of parents as to how to reduce the weight of the School bag. Sr. Principal advised the teachers in the staff meeting to inform parents that the students can keep few books in the class itself (eg: - copy writing, Drawing, Moral science, GK etc.).

            It was also expressed by some parents that students were not comfortable in wearing shoes and socks during rainy season. The students were to be reminded that in the handbook it has been mentioned that the students could wear black sandals with strap during rainy season.

Protection of Children from Sexual Offence

(POCSO 2012)

In response to the requirement of CBSE, the school created a committee to focus on the protection of children from sexual harassments. The following are the activities done.

ORIENTATION ON THE PROTECTION OF CHILDREN AGAINST SEXUAL OFFENCES (POCSO) 2012.

            Students from Class V to X were given classes on safety through their value Education classes in the month of June 2019. Through it is the responsibility of society to put up the structures to keep our children safe, it is also important to recognize the reality that though there are good citizens, there are also anti–social elements. Hence it is a must that children know how to keep themselves safe at all times.

            The protection of Children against Sexual Offences (POCSO 2012) was discussed in an orientation programme for the students of Std VIII to X held on 6th August 2019 at 2.00 pm in the auditorium. Adv. C. K. Mercy from Bathery Court  was the resource person.

KOMAL – A VIDEO ON CHILD

            As a response to CBSE’s POCSO’s programme (protection of children from Sexual Offence), “KOMAL” a video on child Abuse was shown to students of Class I – X from September onwards.

After the short video, a discussion was conducted reiterating the general points of avoiding strangers, keeping healthy physical distance (sitting on lap, good touch, and bad touch etc) and avoiding situations that can make one vulnerable. Children were also reminded to inform trusted adults or to call Child line 1098 in case of abuses.

The  Sexual Harassment of Women at

Workplace Act 2013

          An orientation programme that focuses on the Sexual Harassment  of Women at Work place was thoroughly discussed with the school staff on 6th August 2019 at 3.30 pm in the auditorium. Adv. C.K. Mercy was the resource person. Sr. Deena Rose D.M, Manager, St. Mary’s English Medium School, Pulpally  also attended the meeting. She spoke about the session and introduced the resource person of the day.

There were questions raised by the staff that was addressed by the resource person. Attendance of teachers was recorded in a register.
